Abstract:
Continued escalation of computer technology, cellular networks and data
technology daily increases the demand for high quality circuits in the
communication infrastructure of a country. Research has proved the need for
expediting the tracking of faults in communication circuits. New standards in
quality communication circuits compel suppliers to minimize off- time and deliver
circuits of high quality at all times.
In this study a new remote controlled demultiplexer system is developed. A
Control station controls a number of demultiplexers at microwave terminal
sl?tions and a demultiplexer result in respect of microwave channels can be
obtained at the control station by means of an active result. The product design
comprised of three phases:
• A viability study of the product.
• User requirement analysis.
• Design of the product.
Seven components of the design may be categorized.
1. Software for the control of the demultiplexer relative to the computer.
2. Design of the interface between the computer and the demultiplexer.
3. Design of the communication switch.
4. Hardware development for the selection of the station address, card
address, and the relay address. 5. Linking of hardware to the microcontroller.
6. Final testing and fault correction.
7. Experimental evaluation.
The end product was tested empirically to establish speed, accuracy and
product quality.
